I’m Still Writing…

…just not here, apparently, since it’s been over a year since my last post.  To give you a brief update, I successfully navigated the crazy word-counts of NaNoWriMo again last November, after finishing and polishing up the novel from the previous year.  I’ve completed several short stories over the past year as well, and I’m starting to get a little better at sending out submissions without feeling overwhelmed every time I click “Send.”

What still needs improvement is my turn-around time after a rejection.  While I deeply appreciate the quick response times I’ve encountered with many of my submissions, they don’t do me much good if it then takes me forever to psych myself up to send things out again!  So I’ve decided to designate every Thursday a day to focus on the “business side” of writing: submissions, queries, market research, that kind of thing.  (And probably blogging, just so I don’t let another year go by before I say anything here!)

Yesterday was my first “Business Thursday,” and I sent out three new story submissions, queried on an old one, and organized my writing folders.  I’ve already received two rejections on those four stories, hence my observation about quick response times – but hopefully that just means I’ll have something to do next Thursday.  :)   Not that there’s a shortage of possibilities; I have a novel query to revise and resend, with all of the research that goes into that.  So there’s a lot to do, but at least I feel like I’m getting a little more on-track with trying to get my work out there.
